Do you LOVE where you LIVE

You have a vague idea of what you want in your new home: how to best take advantage of the views, replicating that enormous stone fireplace from your honeymoon, a fun bridge above the entry and two story vaulted great room, luxurious master bedroom suite, etc.

Where do you even start? There are no stock plans for this!

Hire someone who listens to your needs and wants, and guides your project down to your budget while keeping the features you just have to have.

That's what this couple did. We started mocking up the design in 3D and finished the permit drawings (blueprints) using the same tool: Revit.

Upgrading Design Software!

Having the right tools can make all the difference. And the biggest beneficiaries are you, my current and future clients.

Residential design and commercial architecture are radically different animals, requiring a variety of experience. Add to this a stable of fresh hardware and software tools, and I am ready to attack almost any design problem for you.

These last 6 months or so have been tough having access only to older versions of Autocad, Photoshop and Sketchup, and freeware versions of the MS Office suite of products.

I was (finally) able to buy a new, fast, computer, as well purchase (and/or download) the latest versions of:

Autocad 15 (2D drafting)

Revit 15 (3D drafting/BIM - building information modeling)

MS Office 360

Sketchup 14

Once I get past the always annoying "break-in" phase, I will be ready to FLY!

UPS, check.
Dell i7, check
Software, check

Too much work to do, check.

Thanks to all of you who have let me be part of your building projects and lives these last six months.

I look forward to many more years of designing better places to LIVE WORK PLAY and PRAY.

We found the perfect plan, but.....

....but, we need a wider entry with a closet, less traditional exterior, more open interior, add a full basement, a loft over the garage, and twist the garage 45 degrees to fit the site, turn the gable to face the front and add a timber frame front porch......

No problem!

As you can see, once we start modifying a plan to fit your life, wants, needs and dreams, the original plan disappears.

This is one way to get started designing your new home.

Contact LSF Design to discuss your project. Helping YOUR dreams come alive.

Commercial and residential design where you LIVE WORK PLAY & PRAY throughout all of Minnesota and beyond.

To Skin a Cat

Sometimes the obvious answer is the best one. But not usually.

When this church brought their problem to me with a suggested solution, I made it my responsibility to fully understand the problem, make a few suggestions, let them review and select the right solution for them, BEFORE taking steps that may prevent the RIGHT solution from being possible.

The problem, a very tall (7'-6" high) flight of exterior stairs at the main entry. Slippery when wet, snowy and icy, and even though there is an accessible entrance hidden at the back of the building, this is the main entrance to a very lovely church inside.

I developed five (5) different solutions, from a dramatic new enclosed entry over the existing stairs, to a simple heated stair overlay, or a seasonal wind break enclosure.

The church facility committee is currently reviewing these options

Why so many options?

BECAUSE CLIENTS USUALLY UNDERSTAND THEIR PROBLEM BETTER THAN I DO. Why?

- Perhaps there is an underlying need to fix an unstated but related problem.
- Perhaps there is a "sacred" element that shouldn't be touched as it is important to certain members or the history of the church.
- Perhaps they were considering other work in the area that one solution or another meshes perfectly with that project.

With five distinctly different options to choose from now, it is more likely that this one problem will be solved to the satisfaction to more current and future members of this congregation.

What obstacle(s) might turn people off of, or away from, the church YOU attend?

- Nursery is not close to the sanctuary?
- Non-accessible rooms?
- Under-used spaces that could be combined or converted to youth spaces?
- Dark basement fellowship?
- Glare?
- Poor acoustics?
- Some spaces too hot or cold.

WHAT EVER IT IS I have likely helped others with unique suggestions, and would love to help you too.

First meeting is always FREE!!!!
